The team behind Servo, a browser engine written in Rust, was disbanded. In August 2020, Mozilla laid off 250 of its 1,000 employees worldwide, as part of a corporate restructuring caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mozilla layoffs and Rust Foundation (2020–present) The first stable release, Rust 1.0, was announced on May 15, 2015. According to Binstock, while Rust was "widely viewed as a remarkably elegant language", adoption slowed because it radically changed from version to version. Dobb's Journal, Andrew Binstock, commented on Rust's chances of becoming a competitor to C++, along with D, Go, and Nim (then Nimrod). In January 2014, the editor-in-chief of Dr. Prior to version 0.4, Rust also supported typestate analysis, through contracts but that was removed in release 0.4, though the same functionality can be achieved by leveraging Rust's type system. Interfaces were combined with traits and removed as a separate feature and classes were replaced by a combination of implementations and structured types. In October 2012, version 0.4 was released, which added traits as a means of inheritance. Four months later, version 0.3 added destructors and polymorphism, through the use of interfaces. In version 0.2, which was released in March 2012, classes were introduced for the first time. Rust's type system underwent significant changes between versions 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4. Hoare later said that Rust was named after the rust fungus, with reference to the fungus's hardiness. The new Rust compiler successfully compiled itself in 2011. During the same year, work shifted from the initial compiler written in OCaml to a self-hosting compiler based on LLVM written in Rust. Mozilla began sponsoring the project in 2009 as a part of the ongoing development of an experimental browser engine called Servo, which was officially announced by Mozilla in 2010. Rust grew out of a personal project begun in 2006 by Mozilla Research employee Graydon Hoare. Mozilla Foundation headquarters in Mountain View, California Rust has been noted for its growth as a newer language and has been the subject of academic programming languages research. In December 2022, it became the first language other than C and assembly to be supported in the development of the Linux kernel. Since the first stable release in May 2015, Rust has been adopted by companies including Amazon, Discord, Dropbox, Facebook ( Meta), Google ( Alphabet), and Microsoft. Mozilla officially sponsored the project in 2009. Software developer Graydon Hoare created Rust as a personal project while working at Mozilla Research in 2006. It is popularized for systems programming. Rust borrows ideas from functional programming, including static types, immutability, higher-order functions, and algebraic data types. To simultaneously enforce memory safety and prevent concurrent data races, its "borrow checker" tracks the object lifetime of all references in a program during compilation. It enforces memory safety-ensuring that all references point to valid memory-without requiring the use of a garbage collector or reference counting present in other memory-safe languages. Rust is a multi-paradigm, general-purpose programming language that emphasizes performance, type safety, and concurrency.

In order to use some advanced features, accelerate some operations or adhere to certain security constraints, some professional applications require workstation-class components: Nvidia A- or T-series or AMD W-series GPUs rather than their GeForce or Radeon equivalents, Intel Xeon or AMD Threadripper CPUs and ECC (error correction code) memory. The first decision you need to make is whether you'll need a workstation-class system or can get away with a normal laptop the latter is generally cheaper. That's an imperfect solution, though, since VMs tend to be fairly bad about being able to access the full capabilities of the GPU. If you need both and aren't seriously budget-constrained, consider buying a fully kitted-out MacBook Pro and running a Windows virtual machine on it. But a lot of software still doesn't have both Windows and MacOS versions, which means you have to pick the platform that supports any critical utilities or specific software packages. MacBook Pros now have native M1 processor support for most of the important applications, which includes software written to use Metal ( Apple's graphics application programming interface). Windows, because its color profile management seems like it hasn't changed since it originally launched in Windows NT, and MacOS because interface changes made in Monterey combined with ambiguity about supported calibrators, software and the new MacBook Pro screens has some folks gnashing their collective teeth. But performing display calibration on both platforms can feel like walking barefoot over broken glass. Windows' graphics programming interface has gotten a lot better over time, which allows for broader support and better performance in the applications. If what you're really wondering is whether the Mac is generally better than Windows for graphics, that hasn't been true for a while. Once you get a chance to see Bo Peep outside of the confines of Bonnie’s room and managing life like a boss, you’ll fall in love with her. Bo Peep gets “lost” in the latest chapter of the toy’s stories, but you won’t feel sorry for her. In fact, as we’ll see in Toy Story 4, Bo relishes being lost! As a baby lamp, her time with kids is shorter than some of the other toys, so she doesn’t have the same perspective as Woody when it comes to being a lost toy. RELATED: I got to meet Forky from Toy Story 4 at Pixar!īrave, strong, and completely iconic, Toy Story 4′s Bo Peep is going to make a lasting impression. According to movie creators, Bo Peep was part of the foundation of why there’s even a Toy Story 4 at all. Did you know that Bo Peep was only in 7 minutes total in the first two Toy Story films? Those few minutes gave a glimpse of a character that audiences wanted to see more of. The Toy Story franchise has always set the standard for animation innovation, and the new Bo Peep just solidifies that. It’s not just live action films, either! Our favorite and most beloved characters are being made over to appeal to a modern society where everyone knows the answer to the question, “Who run the world?” is GIRLS! If you’re anything like me, you’re loving the new focus on strong, brave girls and women in movies and on television. Or it may have appeared through a life lesson. But this question forces me to think through what did I actually learn then put it in writing. It’s SO easy just to fly through life with one day blurring into the next day. This may be the hardest of the five questions. Possible categories: nutrition / fitness / productivity / relationships / personal development If I answer this question with honesty and a desire to personally improve, I can choose to repeat the good and make the necessary changes. What stood out about yesterday? What were the key events, conversations, and moments that are worth remembering. This is the self-reflection part of the program and the easiest question to ignore because if forces me to think backwards. When I focus on what I look forward to, it gives me hope and energy to persevere to experience those areas. This especially helps me on days that are challenging, not my preferred focus of work, or a long day of business travel. It may be something simple or it may be something I’ve looked forward to for awhile. Answering this question allows me to think forward and anticipate something good that will happen in my day. I learned this question from Donald Miller, creator of StoryBrand for business and StoryLine for personal. Oh, there are a ton more but these are the ones that move the needle in key areas of my life. This exercise focuses on major 3-5 things that are going to produce 80% of the results I want to accomplish today. As he says, “If 80% of your results come from 20% activities, give 80% focus and energy to 20% activities.” Kent Julian in his Goal Getting video course, challenges you to focus your energy on the 20% of your activities that produce 80% of the results. It’s when I look back at the end of the day, what will give me a sense of accomplishment. This question for me is not my to do list. What Exactly Do I Want to Accomplish Today? Journaling asking these questions will bring more ideas of gratefulness.Ģ. Tip – learn to go beyond the surface and really reflect on your life and those around you. It also sets the tone for my day because my focus is on what I have (the positive) not on what I don’t (the negative) and my attitude if changed. So when I focus on what I’m grateful for, I see the good in so many ways. I want to be able to see the good in the bad. Not just when things are going good and my way but grateful in all circumstances. I desire to be a person who is truly grateful. Here are Five Powerful Reflective Questions I’m Asking Every Morning But these five questions mean something to me due to the answers. I’m not a “I did this then I did that” kind of journaler and it showed in my inconsistency. I now ask five specific questions that are powerful and reflective to me. Second, I changed the format of journaling. I always felt I needed to handwrite my journal entries and I just struggled doing it. I made two specific changes:įirst, I started using an app called Day One Journal and I absolutely love it. I always enjoyed going through past days and remembering where I was at in my life in that exact moment. I’ve always seen the value in journaling but struggled with the consistency. I also write almost every single morning. But I also enjoy starting a brand new book. For example, I absolutely love to read and do almost every single morning. My morning is the biggest area of routine throughout my entire day.īut even in my routine I enjoy some change or simple tweaks. But there are certain things that I rely on routine. The Department of the Treasury, in coordination with law enforcement, is exploring ways to enhance the identification and analysis of financial activity of domestic terrorists. The Department of State will continue to assess whether additional foreign entities linked to domestic terrorism can be designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations or Specially Designated Global Terrorists under relevant statutory criteria. The Department of State as well as the intelligence and law enforcement communities are learning more from foreign partners about the international dimensions of this threat. The Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have implemented a robust system to methodically track domestic terrorism cases nationwide. Government will enhance domestic terrorism analysis and improve information sharing throughout law enforcement at the federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial levels, and, where appropriate, private sector partners. PILLAR 1: UNDERSTAND AND SHARE DOMESTIC TERRORISM-RELATED INFORMATION Government’s response to this persistent, evolving, and lethal threat to our people, our democracy, and our national security: It is organized around four pillars – the core elements of how the Biden Administration will improve the U.S. The strategy we are releasing today is carefully tailored to address violence and reduce the factors that lead to violence, threaten public safety, and infringe on the free expression of ideas. Throughout the process, we embraced the protection of civil rights and civil liberties as a national security imperative. Government as well as with leaders in Congress, state and local governments, academia, civil society, religious communities, and foreign governments. To develop a government-wide strategy to counter domestic terrorists, the Biden Administration consulted extensively with a wide array of experts across the U.S. It found that the two most lethal elements of today’s domestic terrorism threat are (1) racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists who advocate for the superiority of the white race and (2) anti-government or anti-authority violent extremists, such as militia violent extremists. An unclassified summary of that assessment was released in March so the public could see the key findings. The review was rooted in an expert assessment of the domestic terrorism threat provided by the intelligence and law enforcement communities. Under Federal law, “ domestic terrorism” is defined as “activities that involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion, or to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping and occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.” Our approach will protect both the nation and the civil liberties of its citizens. Government and partners to understand and share domestic terrorism related information prevent domestic terrorism recruitment and mobilization to violence disrupt and deter domestic terrorism activity and confront long term contributors to domestic terrorism. The comprehensive strategy provides a nationwide framework for the U.S. As a result of that review, the Biden Administration is releasing the first-ever National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism to address this challenge to America’s national security and improve the federal government’s response.ĭomestic terrorism is not a new threat in the United States, yet it is a threat Americans have endured too often in recent years. The basic features, track prep and export tools are available for free, and many mixing features can be unlocked by using a Pioneer DJ controller. The feature set of rekordbox is accessible in a variety of different tiers, some of which require a monthly or yearly subscription. The major selling point here is the way that both mixing skills and your library of tracks can be easily transferred from a small home setup – focused around something like the DDJ-400 – to a pro-level CDJ rig in a club, or top-end controller. The slick Edit Mode is an impressive feature too, bringing basic DAW-like features that let users make rough, quick edits of tracks.Īlthough the DVS control is as good a quality as you’ll find with any rival, rekordbox’s primary appeal is with club DJs. This allows the rekordbox library to rapidly access BPM, key and phrasing information from a huge central database of all tracks analysed by the user base. Its strongest side is still the track organisation tools though, which have recently been updated to add not only cloud library sharing but cloud-based analysis. It’s all well implemented though, and the feature set is growing with each new update, incorporating things like a sequencer, visual mixing, lighting control and lyric playback alongside obligatory tools such as effects, samplers and DVS control. In terms of mixing functionality, much of rekordbox’s toolset is similar to that found in Serato or Traktor. It was only in 2015 that Pioneer expanded the app to become a fully fledged piece of DJ mixing software, but it has quickly become one of the most significant products in the sector. Pioneer DJ’s rekordbox has been around since the late-‘00s, but for much of that time it existed solely as a tool for organising and preparing digital music ready for use with the company’s CDJs. Cloud features require a pricey subscription Some cellular data and LTE plans can offer coverage as far out as 8 to 10 miles from shore. If you’re close to shore or docked in a marina, a MiFi WiFi hotspot booster will boost your available signal to improve speed and reliability. A cell signal booster helps to strengthen and stabilize the signal for more consistent performance.Ī mobile hotspot booster can improve cell service for any carrier, helping you to expand your cellular coverage area and signal strength when you are exploring across North America. However, just like a cell phone, mobile hotspots also have connectivity issues on the road. This is great for conducting business on the road, streaming music or videos, or for family use. Many new cars are also offering mobile hotspots so users can have on-the-go wireless internet. This can improve cell signal strength to improve call quality and data speeds. We often see people using hotspot boosters when they’re on the move, such as:Ī mobile hotspot booster in your car can help to improve signal cell signal strength on the go. Mobile hotspot users are usually individuals that want to improve their mobile WiFi signal strength on the go. It can be weak service, but there has to be at least some signal for your MiFi WiFI hotspot booster to capture, boost, and distribute to power your mobile WiFi hotspot or any other device. You will, however, need to have cell service. Since MiFi WiFi hotspot boosters are usually portable and battery-powered, it’s unlikely that you will need an electrical outlet. What do You Need to Use a Hotspot Booster? This helps to improve your signal, increase your speed, and stabilize your connection. MiFi WiFi hotspot boosters pull in a weak signal from a transmitter and boost it before re-broadcasting a stronger signal to your devices. However, these devices require 3G or 4G LTE connectivity, which means if you have no cell service you will also have no WiFi coming from your hotspot.īecause Mifi hotspots use similar connectivity to cell phones, they also have some of the same challenges as cellular devices, such as poor reception or slow speeds.Ī simple and effective way to improve MiFi WiFi signal is to use a mobile hotspot booster. These hotspots are a game-changer for on-the-go wireless internet coverage, allowing you to connect your devices to the Internet in any location that receives 3G or 4G LTE service. These devices are portable, battery-powered, and can deliver reliable WiFi service when you would otherwise have none MiFi hotspots are mobile devices that use 3G and 4G LTE signals to create personal WiFi service for your mobile devices-such as cell phones, tablets, or laptops. We want to use the time between 6-9 months (also known as the critical period) for babies to explore as much table food as possible, advance in textures, and build on their oral motor skills (aka the skills required to chew and eat and swallow) (2, 3). This is because it prevents them from getting the practice with these foods early on when their gag reflex is more sensitive (and therefore more protective) (2). This makes sense, as your baby will have had much more practice and will not need to be so heavily protected with an extra sensitive gag reflex (1).ĭelaying the introduction of textured foods in the hope that they won’t gag frequently as older babies can actually be worse for them. This also means it will be safer for babies to experience more advanced textures during this time (6 to 9 months) since they have this extra protective mechanism in place.Īs you allow your baby to become accustomed to having food of different types in their mouth, the gag reflex moves slowly towards the back two-thirds of the tongue (2). It allows babies to practice with food in their mouth and learn to chew, all while being extra protected by their sensitive gag reflex. When something touches this area or goes slightly past it, they’ll likely start gagging. The gag reflex starts off being easily triggered when food is at the front third of the tongue (2). This is because the gag reflex is the most sensitive during this time. Gagging is considered to be perfectly normal and harmless if your baby can continue their meal without discomfort and go back for more food (if they’re still hungry).įor the most part, babies gag more in the first few months of starting solids (between 6-9 months of age).
